DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS , GOVERNMENT CHAMPHAI COLLEGE
The Department of Economics, established in 1979, is one of the oldest departments in Govt. Champhai College. Presently, the faculty consists of 4 competent and dedicated assistant professors (click here for details). The department has been offering undergraduate courses since its inception. The department is committed to the advancement of knowledge and learning in the field of economics to enable students understand various economic concepts and their applications. The department also envisions achieving high standards of academic performance to provide quality education to students and prepare them for successful career. Many of its alumni hold prominent positions in academics and administrative spheres across the state. The department has a remarkable record of pass percentage and the dropout rate has been insignificant. The department is equipped with a wifi-enabled laptop and computer set. It also has a library. The department is fortunate to have its alumni, government departments and institutions like IGNOU and the Department of Economics & Statistics donate a number of books and official documents etc.
The department keenly engages the students in various co-curricular activities to complement the academic curriculum and augment students’ academic and personal development. Some of these activities include- educational field visits, study tours, special lectures, surveys, creating of self-support platforms for students, financial donations to the community, and participating in extension activities organized by the institution and other departments within and outside the campus, workshops on career guidance etc.
